The Bibliotheca Alexandrina releases a commemorative issue of its media newsletter

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina recently released the second issue of its Newsletter. The issue included numerous topics, one of which was a documentary article of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina inauguration with the speeches delivered during the ceremony by worldwide scientists and intellects representing the continents.

It also included the “Ode to Joy” written by the poet Mr Sayed Hegab and sung by a choir of schoolchildren from various schools in Alexandria and composed by Maestro Sherif Mohie El Din. The issue also included a list of the donations offered to H.E. Mrs Suzanne Mubarak, Head of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Board of Trustees, on the occasion of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina inauguration.

The other event covered in this commemorative issue was the International Conference on “Ethics and Social Responsibilities in Science and Technology” held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, 19-21 October 2002. The participants were 65 scientists from Canada, Egypt, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America. This issue also included the conference on the “International Heritage in the Digital Age”. It was organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in collaboration with UNESCO, the National Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the World Heritage Fund. The participants discussed their different experiences in the area of heritage documentation by means of the latest technology.

The comprehensive article written on the Friends of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina included the contributions offered by different associations to the library. These contributions were from Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, France, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States of America.

This issue also included “the Wall Exhibition” organized at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 16 October 2002. The exhibition expressed the idea of the Wall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The latest Bibliotheca Alexandrina publications were also mentioned and the interaction between the library and its visitors. This issue included a critical study of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina building presented by Dr. Serageldin and he gave a detailed description of the library services.
