“Child Protection Mechanism” in a Seminar at the BA

Alexandria— The BA, in collaboration with the UNICEF Child Protection Section, is organizing a seminar entitled “Child Protection Mechanism” on Tuesday 17 June 2008 at the BA to discuss children’s rights and the risks facing them.

General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria and Dr. Erma Manoncourt, UNICEF Country Representative in Egypt, will attend the seminar. The seminar will review the program to protect children at risk in Alexandria, its accomplishments over two years and future steps to ensure the sustainability of child protection mechanism.

The seminar will include a roundtable discussion on the application of child protection mechanism in light of the amendments to the Child's Law. Mr. Mostafa Khalil, Legal Advisor, National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) will speak about the proposed amendments to the Child's Law and will shed lights on child protection mechanism.

Dr. Adel Azer, will review international experiences and the application of child protection mechanism, and Dr. Manal Shaheen, Director of the 16000 Child Helpline, National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, will shed lights on the Helpline in view of the proposed amendments to the Child's Law.

At the end of the seminar, Hany Helal, Director, Egyptian Center for the Rights of the Child, will speak about the role of civil society in implementing the proposed amendments to the Child's Law.

The Seminar will start at 10:00 hrs at the BA Conference Center, Small Theater.
