The TWAS-ARO members meet every year to come up with conclusions and recommendations for the TWAS-ARO activities. TWAS Arab members include around 55 distinguished scientists residing in 12 different Arab countries and abroad.

The establishment of TWAS Regional Offices was proposed by the Council and approved by the 13th TWAS General Meeting held in India in 2002. Subsequently five regional offices have been established in Nairobi, Kenya; Bangalore, India; Beijing, China; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Alexandria, Egypt.

TWAS-ARO was launched at the BA in June 2005. The overall objective of the TWAS-ARO is to promote the activities of TWAS and its affiliated organizations in the region, as recommended by the Academy's current and future strategic plans. The tasks of the TWAS-ARO were assigned to the Center for Special Studies and Programs at the BA.
