Available in: English

The Pillars of Development, is a booklet containing two lectures and two speeches by Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia. Dr. Mahathir relates his country’s experience in promoting Malaysia from a poor rice-cultivating country into one of the most competitive industrial giants in Asia. In his first lecture, “The Development of Human Resources” he describes how Malaysians, including women, succeeded in promoting education and how they achieved remarkable technological and scientific progress in a very short time while maintaining their Malaysian and Islamic identities. In his second lecture, “Cultural Integration”, he emphasizes the importance of tolerating other views and cultures while preserving one’s identity. The two speeches are about globalization and its impact on Asia and the measures to encourage investment and trade flows.
