The BA Planetarium Science Center, in cooperation with Intel Co. and the Ministry of Education, is organizing the Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) during 16–18 March 2015. The purpose of the competition is to help students increase their awareness of the importance of scientific research, and to explore their research and innovation skills. The three winning projects will eventually represent Egypt in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) that will be held in the United States during 10–15 May 2015.

Participants are required to submit a scientific research project in of the seventeen fields of science that are specified for the competition, in addition to preparing a research paper, a data handbook, a prototype (optional), a display panel, an abstract, and a presentation. Students can participate in Intel BASEF with an individual or team project (maximum 2 students in a group). PSC specialists provide technical support, advice, and share their expertise to help students  finalize their projects as per the Intel ISEF standards.

As for 2014, the competition was organized in seven governorates, in addition to school competitions targeting students between 14–17 years of age. During the competition, projects are set for final evaluation through two phases, in line with the standards of the international competition organizers; that is to ensure the quality of the winning projects in Intel BASEF finals that will eventually qualify to the international exhibition in the Unites States.

Interested students who are between 14–18 years of age can enter the competition by registering at the PSC, no later than 30 January 2015. For more information about the competition, submission, terms and conditions, please visit the PSC or their official website.
