The BA Coptic Studies Center and the Franciscan Cultural Center (Giza) are organizing a workshop about Byzantine mosaic art which aims to introduce the many elements of Byzantine mosaic art: how it was designed, made, and restored. The workshop will be given by a group of artists and experts in mosaic art.
The workshop will be held daily from 23 November–4 December 2014, except for Friday and Saturday, and it will be divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. Participants will get to work on a project in the practical part of the workshop.
The center also organized two lectures in Cairo, as part of the 4th Coptic cultural season. The first lecture was titled “Murals in Nubian Churches" and was given by Dr. Atef Naguib, General Manager of the Coptic Museum, where he discussed the most important archaeological murals that were discovered and salvaged in Nubia during the past years and decades. The second lecture was titled ““The Biographies and Shrines of Saints in Egypt” and was given by Dr. Nevine Abdel Gawad, a PhD holder of Philosophy in Tourism from the Alexandria University.
