The Center of Islamic Studies launches its activities

The BA Center of Islamic Studies launches on Tuesday, 11 February 2014, its first activities, a lecture entitled “Hajj Ceremony in Lewis Vartema's Views” .
The Lecture is given by Dr. Mohamed Said Omran, Professor of European Medieval History and Civilization, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.
It tackles the journey of the Italian Traveler Lewis Vartema who started off from Venice in 1503 to Cairo, Biuret, Tripoli, Aleppo, Damascus (where he learnt Arabic), Medina, Mecca, Jeddah, then Jizan, and documented his observations specially the Muslim pilgrimage.
The Islamic Studies Center is a recent BA academic center that aims to spread awareness on Islamic civilization.
The Lecture starts at 12:00 noon at the BA Auditorium, Main Library, and is open for public.
