The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized a grand celebration and concert entitled “The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices” in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Cairo, marking the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The celebration was attended by H.E. Mr. Deyan Katratchev, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Cairo; H.E. Mr. Dominic Goh, Ambassador of Singapore to Cairo; Ms. Heba Al-Rafey, Acting Head of the Library’s External Relations and Media Sector, Archimandrite Damaskinos Al-Azrai of the Greek Orthodox Church; as well as high-level diplomats, public figures, and members of the Bulgarian community in Egypt.
In her speech on behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ms. Heba El-Rafey said that arts and music are a universal language that promotes dialogue between cultures and builds bridges across cultural and social divides, noting that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is dedicated to fostering mutual understanding through the dissemination of knowledge and artistic expression.
She explained that the celebration is a continuation of the cooperation with the Bulgarian Embassy, which recently witnessed the opening of the exhibition “Egyptian Cults around the Black Sea,” emphasizing that the music performance represents a modern journey that combines the excellence of Bulgarian voices and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Choir to reflect the depth of spiritual and cultural ties.
The celebration featured a concert entitled “The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices” by the Bulgarian choir, with the participation of Maestro Georgi Andreev and the Quarto Quartet, in collaboration with Maestro Nayer Nagui and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Choir.
The pieces performed reflected the richness of Bulgarian folk music and spirit, blended with Egyptian melodies, embodying the common roots and close artistic ties between the two peoples.
