New Round of the “Book and Screen” Literacy Program at the BA
Posted on
The BA Library Sector is organizing the fifth experimental round of the “Book and Screen” literacy program, which includes teaching reading and writing, basic arithmetic, and how to use mobile phones.
The program will start in January 2026 and continue until November 2026. Classes will be available in the morning or evening to accommodate as many students as possible, including working people who are unable to attend morning classes. The General Authority for Adult Education will allow students to take a literacy exam at the end of the course for certification (for those who have not previously received a certificate).
Students aged 15 and above are accepted, with no maximum age limit. They are only required to have a serious desire to learn and the ability to attend classes regularly.
The program trains students to approach different types of texts that they encounter in their daily lives, such as forms, contracts, medication leaflets, signs, advertisements, and instructions. It teaches the principles of arithmetic in an applied manner that links it to everyday life and takes into account the difficulties faced by those who are not accustomed to learning to handle written arithmetic problems. It also emphasizes the integration of mobile phones into the educational process, since they are considered one of the most important media used for reading and writing in our modern life.
It is worth noting that this curriculum was developed based on the experience of those in charge of the “Easy Reading” program, which has been offered by the BA since 2019 to graduates of literacy classes. It consists of monthly group reading sessions to encourage literacy certificate holders to read and continue to learn.
