Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that green transition is no longer an option but a necessity to protect our environmental security, in light of the temperature fluctuations and severe water resource challenges facing the Arab region as a result of climate change.
These remarks were made during his opening speech at the workshop “Pathways to Green Transition in the Arab Region,” organized by the BA Academic Sector’s Center for Special Studies and Programs, headed by Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, and the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries' Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP), on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of this partnership between both sides, which has yielded several results in support of young Arab researchers and scientists.
The opening session was attended by Dr. Adel El-Beltagy, former Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation; Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, former Minister of Education; and Dr. Hussein El-Atfy, former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as researchers and speakers from various Arab countries.
This two-day workshop will examine advanced models of green transformation and their potential for application in the Arab region, taking into account the geographical and environmental diversity.
