Seminar: “The UAE Experience in Sustainability”

The BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program launched this morning a seminar entitled "The UAE Experience in Sustainability", in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Cairo. It witnessed the participation of H.E. Ambassador Mariam Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and Eng. Samah Saleh, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, and was moderated by Prof. Yousry El-Gamal, former Minister of Education, in the presence of Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that this seminar highlights the importance of joint action to achieve sustainable development and ensure a better future. He stated that facing challenges requires a comprehensive vision based on the values of innovation, responsibility, and solidarity.

He also stressed that the BA believes in the importance of development and works through the Sustainable Development Studies Program to provide studies and projects, educate young people, and develop their capacities in this field.

In her speech, Ambassador Mariam Al Kaabi said that the UAE has made significant achievements with regard to the seventeen sustainable development goals, pointing out that she would focus in her speech on the thirteenth goal, which is climate action.

She also mentioned that the UAE is one of the leading countries in the field of sustainability, and is working on several initiatives and projects with the aim of preserving resources.

For her part, Eng. Samah Saleh said that what is important in achieving sustainable development is the issuance of the Environment and Nature Protection Laws, stressing that the Egyptian state seeks to achieve sustainable development by paying attention to natural resources and preserving their natural wealth.
