The Seventh Edition of the International Francophone School at the BA

The BA Library Sector and the International Francophone Association of Librarians and Documentalists (AIFBD) are organizing the seventh edition of the Francophone International Summer School for Information and Library Sciences, under the theme “Heritage, Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, from 13 to 22 June 2023. This event is held in partnership with Senghor University, and with the support of the Francophone University Agency (AUF), the Francophone Digital Network (RFN), the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), the Arab Organization for Research and Education Networks (ASREN), Cairn Publishing, the French Consulate in Egypt, the Ecole Supérieure d’Administration in Geneva, and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in France.
This year’s edition will be inaugurated by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA, and will be held in line with the mission and objectives of the Library, which is a leading institution in facing the challenges of the digital age, and is concerned with certain regions, most notably the French-speaking countries in Africa.
The summer school comprises three intensive courses with a total of 40 hours, combining in-person and remote lectures that will tackle the theoretical and practical aspects of heritage, digitization, and artificial intelligence.
This academic training is aimed at library and information sciences professionals, as well as cultural heritage practitioners. It also targets second and third year library and information sciences students, and those majoring in other related fields.
It is worth mentioning that the Francophone International Summer School has been held annually since 2017. Its previous editions were organized in different French-speaking countries such as France, Senegal, Canada and Switzerland. It is the first time this high-level academic training is taking place in Egypt.
