The BA Antiquities Museum, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, organizes an exhibition entitled “Tutankhamun’s Living Image” on Tuesday, 1 November 2022, at 1:00 pm, in the BA Main Building, Antiquities Museum’s Entrance (B1 level). It runs until 30 November 2022.

The exhibition examines the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and its media impact, highlighting the role of the Egyptian workers and archaeologists in this endeavor, in addition to the role of the Egyptian newspapers in opposing the English newspapers’ attempt to monopolize the coverage of this major event. The exhibition also documents the great interest of Egyptians and foreigners in visiting the King’s tomb, as well as its official opening in 1929, while displaying samples of Egyptian and foreign newspapers and magazines that were published during that period.

Several images will be displayed for the first time of the King's treasures exhibitions that toured the world, starting from America and Canada in 1962, to France, Japan, Germany and England until the beginning of the 1970s. The exhibition also includes a display of some of the souvenirs that accompanied the discovery, together with some coins and stamps bearing the name and face of King Tutankhamun. The displayed collection is selected from the archives of Francis Amin.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt and the world will celebrate on 4 November this year the centenary of the greatest discovery in the history of archeology: the discovery of the royal tomb of the young King Tutankhamun at the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, by the English archaeologist Howard Carter. This discovery had a huge impact on the whole world and was covered by all international newspapers and magazines in an unprecedented manner for ten years.
