The BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program, in cooperation with “Earth’s Climate for Sustainable Development” Foundation, organizes the closing ceremony of “Alexandria Climathon for Youth” Competition on 5 and 6 September 2022, in the BACC Delegates Hall.
“Climathon” is an international competition held in several countries around the world through EIT Climate-KIC, which aims at raising the awareness of urban residents about climate changes. The competition is an opportunity for young people to participate in developing ideas that address local climate challenges. It aims to highlight climate issues, and the means of dealing with the current and future situation amid the major and disturbing repercussions caused by the phenomenon of climate change.
The BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program launched this year’s competition for the first time in Alexandria (May 2022). A large number of young people applied in the form of groups, and presented their projects that sought to reduce the effects of climate change. A total of 50 projects were submitted, and only 10 were selected as finalists and underwent an intensive training program that helped them develop their projects.
The projects will be presented to a jury of academic and industrial experts to choose only one from Alexandria, which will be qualified for the national Climathon competition that gathers the top winners from all governorates. A winning team will be selected to join the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is set to take place in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
