The Bibliotheca Alexandrina published a special issue of Memory of Egypt magazine (43rd issue) on the Nile River. The issue includes topics related to the geography of the Nile, the hydro politics of the river basin, and the grand projects established to benefit from the Nile water. It also highlights Egyptians’ celebrations of the Nile over the course of history, as well as the songs and films created to honor this eternal river.
Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, said in the issue’s op-ed, “We have encountered a certain conflict at the sources of the Nile in the last few years. Vicious attempts have been made to distort Egypt’s humanitarian role, and unjustly control the river water, thus violating international laws in the most explicit manner. Our attachment to the Nile is growing, because water is life, and the river is a gift from God.”
It is worth mentioning that the BA published two outstanding issues of Memory of Egypt in 2020 on the centenary of King Farouk I and the history of pandemics in Egypt respectively.
