The First Video Art Festival

The BA Arts Exhibitions and Collections Department holds from 18 April to 20 May 2013, the First Video Art Festival, marking fifty years since video art first appeared thanks to Korean Artist Nam June Paik.
The Exhibition displays works of nine artists from Egypt and other countries. Two lectures introducing video art will accompany the Exhibition on 18 and 20 April 2013, explaining the displayed works and showing documentaries from Mediterranean countries, under the supervision of Exhibition Commissioner Marc Mercier, together with a number of participating international artists.
Video art appeared in the early sixties of the past century, and has greatly developed since then to become one of the most widely-spread of plastic arts worldwide. It is considered a new phase in plastic arts that appeared as a result of technological advancement. Because it is a somewhat recent expressive medium, many plastic artists and fans have reservations to considering it an original art as any other. This may be due to the fact that video art utilizes new terminology for moving images and sound in a new graphic way. However, while there are no boundaries between types of art in general, we must clarify that video art differs from cinema arts and mounted works.
The Exhibition will be held at the BACC West Exhibition, and is open to public daily- except Fridays- from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
