The BA Main Library Department, in cooperation with the UNESCO, organizes on Tuesday 19 February 2013 Abu Simbel Sun Festival, featuring an orientation session about the history of Abu Simbel Temple, and how the temple is carved out of a single sandstone in a way that the sunrays illuminate its inner sanctuary, as well as the UNESCO international campaign to save the monuments of Nubia.
Dina Bakhoum, an Expert in the Restoration of Historic Buildings and Monuments, and Dr. Omar Fikry, Head of the BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC), and Mr. Hossam Nasr, Ph.D. Researcher in History, will deliver keynote lectures.
The Event also includes a screening of a documentary entitled Nubia Campaign, which highlights the efforts of UNESCO in dismantling and transferring the temple threatened by the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam. Besides, it features a photo exhibition showing the stages of preservation of the temple adopted by UNESCO in cooperation with the Egyptian government.
The event is held at 4:00 pm at the BACC Small Theatre and is open to public.
