The BA Center for Strategic Studies organized a roundtable discussion entitled "Managing the Crisis and the Management Crisis… States and Governments Discrepancies in Dealing with the Coronavirus Pandemic". As an interactive discussion, live on the internet, the session featured the participation of a group of contemporary thinkers who shared their different experiences in monitoring the coronavirus crisis on both the national and international levels. The discussion hosted a group of specialists from Egypt, the Gulf region and the Arab Maghreb, who touched upon different governments’ policies to combat the pandemic, and allowed the center followers from different platforms to present their opinions and raise questions about the crisis.
As part of the consequences of the coronavirus outburst on the international level, this live discussion focused on the most prominent experiences in dealing with the crisis in the Gulf and Arab Maghreb, and on the cooperation mechanisms between Arab countries to fight the pandemic; and attempted to answer some of the following questions:
- How were Arab countries able to combat COVID-19? What are the economic repercussions of this crisis on the Arab world?
- Why did the Jordanian experience surpass other Arab experiences in containing the crisis?
- How did the Arab Maghreb countries face the COVID-19? What is the future of reviving the Arab Maghreb Union project amidst this crisis?
- Why did the COVID-19 spread in some Middle Eastern countries such as Iran and Turkey? How was the COVID-19 relevantly contained in other Gulf countries and in Egypt?
- Is the coronavirus pandemic threatening the coherence of Arab countries?
- What are the mechanisms of mutual cooperation to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in Arab countries?
- Would a joint Arab scientific research project stem from this crisis?
