Serageldin Co-chairs Conference on Nizami Ganjavi and Signs MoU with Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

In Ganja, home of the ancient Azeri poet Nizami Ganjavi, Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, co-chaired with Dr. Abulfaz Garayev, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, an international conference dedicated to the 870th Anniversary of the poet.
Among the eminent speakers at the conference were Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President Republic of Latvia and Roza Otunbayeva, former President Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
On the occasion, a new International Center named after Nizami Ganjavi was inaugurated and a special cultural performance was held at the Mausoleum of the ancient romantic poet . A Nizami Ganjavi art exhibition, which includes original manuscript leaves, was inaugurated by Serageldin, Vike-Freiberga, Garayev , and Mayor of Ganja City.
During his visit, Serageldin has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the BA and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The two institutions have agreed to cooperate with each other in areas of mutual interest such as support of research, training programs, scientific exchanges, fellowships, seminars and workshops.
