The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the Egyptian Caricature Association and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), celebrates 120 years since the birth of Armenian-Egyptian Caricaturist Saroukhan, on Tuesday, 8 October 2019, at 11:30 am. The event honors Alexander Saroukhan, one of the leading figures of caricature in Egypt.

Alexander Saroukhan was one of the first artists who published their work in Rose al-Yusuf Magazine, where he introduced his famous caricature figure, Elmasry Afandy, which depicted the working class in Egypt, and played an important role in Egyptian politics at that time.

Saroukhan’s work appeared in many Egyptian newspapers and magazines. He worked at Al-Akhbar newspaper until his death in 1977.
