The BA hosts, on 8 and 9 August 2012, the first meeting of the African Union (AU) High Level Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation which will guide the AU on the review process of Africa’s Science and Technology Consolidated Plan of Action (CPA).
Drafted by African ministers of Science and technology in 2005, CPA was endorsed by AU heads of states and governments in 2006, with the view to moving the continent from resource-based economies into the age of innovation-led growth.
The eight-person panel is co-chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria; and Dr. Calestous Juma, Professor of International Development at Harvard University.
On the fringe lines of the Meeting, Juma will give a talk entitled “Technological Leapfrogging in Africa: Policy Reform in the Age of Political Ferment” at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, 8 August, at the BACC Delegates Hall.
The Panel Meeting Report will be presented at the next conference of African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology (AMCOST) to be held in November 2012 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
