The BA Peace and Democracy Studies (CPDS) hosts on Wednesday, 18 July 2012, an orientation session about the anti-sexual harassment campaign Welad El-Balad entitled “A Safe Place for Egyptian Women”.
The Campaign aims at putting an end to sexual harassment in Alexandria through highlighting the Egyptian values, spreading awareness about the issue, assisting the victims legally and psychologically, and coordinating between the different segments of society to create an anti-harassment culture.
The Campaign was launched in 2011 during Al-Fitr Feast. It managed to prevent several harassment incidents and recruited some of the harassers among its volunteers. Subsequent to the campaign on-site activities, the volunteers together with the public launched a cleaning campaign to emphasis that cleanness is part and parcel of the Egyptian values and culture.
