The Launch of the El-Gazayerli Encyclopedia for the Street Names of Alexandria

The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) launches the El-Gazayerli Encyclopedia for Street Names of Alexandria, on Thursday, 14 June 2012.
Compiled over a period of 30 years and completed in 1967, the Encyclopedia comprises information about the names of Alexandria’s streets, linking the city’s past history with its present.
The author of the El-Gazayerli Encyclopedia is one of the main historians of Alexandria, and his work mentions more than 1350 personalities commemorated in the city’s street names. The work serves as a useful reference to the streets of Alexandria.
The Book Launch Ceremony features short talks by Dr. Mohamed Awad, Alex Med Director, Writer Ibrahim Abd El-Meguid, and Dr. Fathy Abu Aiana, Professor of Geography. It is attended by Chancellor Farid Fahmy El-Gazayerli, and Dr. Samir Fahmy El-Gazayerli, the author’s sons, who allowed and assisted the publication of this Encyclopedia.
