The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Plan International organize the “International Women’s Day Conference: The Problems of Development, Culture and Work”, on Tuesday, 19 March 2019.

Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, Mr. Moudather Hussein Sadiqi, Head of Plan International Egypt, and Dr. Hend Hanafy, Former Chancellor of Alexandria University and Member of the National Council for Women will inaugurate the event.

The conference discusses important women’s issues amid contemporary cultural changes and the tendency towards the decentralization of services granted to women. It also tackles the challenges faced by women in the workplace and their efforts in the field of development.

A large number of women specialists from Egypt and the Arab World will take part in the conference, in addition to developmental entities and those concerned with women’s issues.

Additionally, the BA Women’s Studies and Social Transformation Program is organizing the Regional Experts Meeting, entitled “Women Building Arab Communities”, on 19 and 20 March 2019, in the BA Conference Center.

The meeting sheds light on the societal condition of women in Arab countries, and what it needs from initiatives and laws in order for women to become an integral part of sustainable development in their own communities. Moreover, the meeting discusses the cultural, social, legal, political and economic basis with regard to the condition of women in the Arab World.
