Special Cinema Program on the Occasion of International Women’s Day: Mafrouza

On the Occasion of the International Women’s Day, the BA Arts Center screens the 5-parts documentary film Mafrouza, from Thursday, 8 to Monday, 12 March 2012.
Directed by Emmanuelle Demoris and produced in 2011, the film was shot over two years spent in Mafrouza, a shanty town built on the site of a Greco-Roman necropolis in Alexandria.
It tells the stories of a few people who embody and tell of their own resistance, which makes the neighborhood a space of freedom and vitality. It recounts the encounter between the people of Mafrouza and the person who has come to film them.
Screenings start on Thursday, 8 March with Oh Night, then Heart on Friday. On Saturday, 10 March The Hand of the Butterfly is screened, followed by a seminar hosting the Film Director, Emmanuelle Demoris. Sunday, 12, features the screening of What is to be Done. The last part of the film, The Art of Speaking is screened on Monday, 12 March.
The 5 parts are in chronological order, but each part is independent and can be viewed separately.
Screenings start at 7:00 pm at the BA Auditorium, Main Building, and is open for public. The film is subtitled in Arabic.
