Football Match Turns into a Tragedy

Posted on

Teenagers and youngsters with innocent faces and bright eyes have just finished their mid-year exams. Instead of celebrating their results, they were added to martyrs' lists.

Others with pale faces and wondering eyes scream silently, for there are no words to describe how they feel.

Mothers, fathers, families and friends never thought their loved ones, who have left their homes as football fans, would come back in boxes.

Port Said, the valiant city which fought the mightiest of armies, was sadly a stage for the black massacre. But the sons and daughters of Port Said heroes and martyrs were not taken by the catastrophe, they rushed to help the injured and relieve the bereaved and those who have witnessed death before their eyes.

Those youth have surprised us all with their daring and brave attitude before the security forces all through the Revolution. They proved that their loyalty to their teams is only a part of their loyalty to Egypt. They said they were ready to sacrifice their lives for their country, and they kept their promise.

Nearly eighty young people have lost their lives. They are not mere numbers to be added to the death records. Eighty stories have ended abruptly, eighty dreams will never be realized, and eighty bereaved mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, families and friends are left with mere memories.

The BA Director and staff offer condolences to all Egyptians. The BA observes three days in mourning for the martyrs. May their souls rest in peace and may God bless us all with mercy and patience.
