The BA Hosts “Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage in Daily Life” Exhibition

The BA Art Collections and Exhibitions Department inaugurates the “Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage in Daily Life” Exhibition on Wednesday, 8 August 2018. The international mobile exhibition of traditional Chinese art is part of a series of cultural exchange activities by the "Belt and Road" initiative, and it represents the cooperation between Shanghai and Alexandria.
The theme of the Exhibition is “Culture across Ancient and Modern”. It showcases a number of works of art or craftsmanship representing the various stakeholders involved in the protection of intangible cultural heritage in Shanghai. With more than 130 exhibits, the Exhibition includes drawings by peasants from Shanghai's Jinxian County, the Kashmiri embroidery, Shanghai-style silk weaving, Chinese opera costumes, jade carvings, bamboo carving from the Jiading District, as well as gold, silver, copper and glass crafts, among others.
The organizations hosting this Exhibition are: Shanghai Municipal Culture, Radio Broadcasting, Film and Television Administration and Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, while the sponsoring organizations are: Shanghai Museum, ShangHai Art & Design Academy, Shanghai Municipal Archives, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The exhibition will be inaugurated at 2:00 pm at the BACC West Exhibition Hall and will continue until Monday, 27 August 2018.
