The BA Futuristic Studies Unit launched its program entitled “Redefining the Term ‘Political’” on Thursday, 21 July 2011.
“Redefining the Term ‘Political’” is an academic program for young researchers who have a significant role in the current state of affairs, held under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Soffar, Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and the American University in Cairo (AUC).
The Program seeks to bridge the gap between academic theories and reality, and transcends theoretical frameworks without negating them. It also attempts to examine some literary texts within the study of the Egyptian case, for literature has proposed explanations aside from the dilemma of theory and methodology.
Entitled “The Crisis of Political Science in Egypt”, the Program’s first session posed a question on the importance of re-examining the term “political”, in light of the failure of politicians to anticipate the revolution or even comprehend it after it has already taken place. The crisis of political science in Egypt lies in basing it on the imported Behavioral Theory, and the study of macro levels, disregarding others.
