Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia gifted all its publications to the BA within the framework of strengthening Egyptian-Saudi cultural relations and building partnerships between the two sides. The donation is comprised of a selection of books dealing with various topics and fields; most importantly studies of the history of Mecca.
The donation includes the book Juhud Al-Malik ‘Abd Al-‘Azīz fī ḥifẓ al-amn fī Al-Ḥejāz. This book focuses on the policy of King Abdul Aziz and his efforts to consolidate and preserve security in Hejaz. The book also highlights the importance of the tribes' contributions to security reform and raising the awareness of individuals to the dissemination of government orders and press releases, as well as royal decrees.
Another work, entitled Makka al-Mukkarrama fi Al-'Ahd Al-'Utyhmâny (1277-1334 according to the Hijri Calendar and 1861-1916 according to the Gregorian Calendar): Dirâssa Tarikhiya Hadariya, was part of the collection offered. It deals with the last period of the Ottoman Empire in Hejaz in general and Mecca in particular, from making reference to the politics of the Sharifs of Mecca and their relations with the tribes of Hejaz, to the rivalry between the emir of Mecca and the Ottoman governor over power, as well as the policy of governance conducted by the Ottomans in Mecca. The book draws a portrait of the social diversity and traditions of the inhabitants of Mecca, and focuses on the role of the emergence of press in raising awareness of society, the economic situation, and most importantly, the architectural reforms in Mecca that time.
In addition, the donation includes all volumes of the book titled Tiwafah and Mutawwif, which compiles the research presented at the scientific seminar organized by Prince Salman bin 'Abd Al-'Aziz’s Chair for the Study of Mecca’s History.
