2017 Big Read Closing Ceremony

The BA is organizing the 2017 Big Read closing ceremony to be held on Wednesday, 27 September 2017 at 3:00 pm, the BACC Small Theater. The BA held the Big Year, for the ninth consecutive year, from June to September in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Egyptian Association for Friends of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The Big Read is a summer program that targets adults (16 years old and older) in order to encourage the general public to read and express their ideas creatively. This year’s program focused on the short story collection Sareq al-Kohl (The Kohl Thief)—which includes ka'ann (As If), Sareq al-Kohl (The Kohl Thief), Aimra'a Maskina (Poor Woman), and Al-Firash al-Shaghir (The Empty Bed)—by Egyptian writer Yahya Haqqi.

Through this year’s program, the BA held various activities, competitions, seminars, and workshops. Said activities included a drama workshop, in which participants turn novels into plays then perform the work on stage, and the “Think and Express” workshop for the deaf and hearing impaired.

The General Collections and Services is going to hold four theatrical performances of the Sareq al-Kohl short story collection on Tuesday and Wednesday, 26 and 27 September 2017 starting from 5:00 pm at the BACC Small Theater.

Said performances are the product of the drama workshop, held from June to September 2017, where participants turned the short story collection into plays and composed music pieces specifically for the shows. The performances will be in Arabic and will be accompanied by sign language interpretation.

For more information on the exact time of each performance, please contact the BA Information Desk via calling 03-483999 or visit our Facebook page.
