Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Dr. Ayman El-Dessouky, Chairman of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) signed an agreement to foster scientific cooperation between the two institutions. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Farouk El-Baz, Director of the Center for Remote Sensing, Boston University, and was concluded on the fringe lines of the 20th International Planetarium Society Conference (IPS 2010).
The Agreement includes a framework of cooperation in space and remote sensing applications, programs engaging youth in both institutions, the launch of two educational satellites, academic and scientific exchange, in addition to cooperation in fields of research, development, and joint scientific research.
It is worth noting that the IPS 2010 Conference entitled “Back to Alexandria, the Cradle of Astronomy”, is held for the first time in Africa and the Middle East, from 26 to 30 June 2010, with the participation of around 350 scientists representing 35 different countries and 700 planetariums around the world.
