Dr. Serageldin Participates in African Development Bank Meeting

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA and member of the African Development Bank (AfDB), participated in the AfDB meeting held on 13 March 2017 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The meeting was held under the title “Accelerating the Implementation of the Ten Year Strategy”, and it aimed to offer suggestions and recommendations to the bank on how to implement the strategy’s top five priorities.
The meeting was chaired by Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and Noble Prize, and Horst Köhler, former President of Germany.
Participants presented their recommendations concerning several issues, including political will and economic reform, and they engaged in an open discussion with the AfDB board members.
The AfDB is a multilateral development finance institution that was established to contribute to the economic development and social progress of African countries. Founded on 14 August 1963 in Khartoum, Sudan, the bank’s objectives are to contribute to poverty reduction in Africa, improve the living conditions of people in Africa, and mobilize resources for the economic and social progress of the continent.
The Ten Year Strategy’s (TYS) two main objectives toward improving the quality of growth in Africa are the achievement of inclusive growth and the transition to green growth. The TYS five operational priorities are infrastructure development, regional-economic integration, private sector development, governance and accountability, and skills and technology.
