The BA, in cooperation with the U.S. Consulate General in Alexandria and the American University in Cairo (AUC), is organizing the Jazz Tales Festival from 7 March to 1 April 2017. The event will hold jazz music concerts over four weeks in Cairo and Alexandria.
Maestro Hisham Gabr, Director of the BA Arts Center, stated that the Jazz Tales Festival is an ambitious project; one which the Arts Center organized as a means to revive jazz music and raise people’s awareness about the richness of jazz, its origins, and its different genres.
The festival program includes 12 concerts of different types of jazz music performed by jazz bands from Egypt and the USA.
The program also includes four workshops that are set to be held at AUC, New Cairo. Several American bands will participate in the workshops, including the Rad Trads Band; the Todd Marcus Band; the Braden, Michels Project; and the Huntertones.
The Egyptian bands participating in the festival are Wave Band, Boghdady Big Band, Cairo BingBand Society, Shady Al Qaseer Group, Sherif Watson, Triple Trouble Band, and Akram El-Sharkawy Group.
The festival concerts will present a variety of jazz music genres, such as Latin jazz, swing, fusion, contemporary jazz, and Arabic jazz.
