On 21 June 2016, the Ministry of International Cooperation organized a meeting at the ministry, in cooperation with the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument Cross-Border Cooperation in the Mediterranean (ENPI CBC Med) Program officials, as part of the closing events of the program’s first round and to announce the continuation of the funding program for a second round, which will end in 2020.

Among the attendees were representatives of the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a delegate of the European Commission in Cairo, representatives of the BA, a delegation from the ENPI CBC Med Program—including the program’s chairperson, and a number of experts. The meeting tackled the objectives of the funding program, and it examined the most pressing challenges and obstacles faced by those who benefited from the program’s projects in its previous round. The BA Alex Med project “International Augmented Med (I AM)” has been chosen, among two other projects, out of 31 projects implemented in Egypt as a model of success in terms of execution methods and fulfilling all desired objectives.

The International Augmented Med (I AM) Project aims to promote touristic and archaeological sites through using the latest technological applications that depend on visual and sound effects. This strategy will result in revitalizing the tourism sector and promoting archaeological sites and natural and cultural heritage. By supporting this vital sector, the project is also contributing to the development of economy and tourism in the Mediterranean region in general and in Alexandria, Egypt, in particular. The project’s activities held by the BA were promoted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), as it posted the dates of the Library’s 3D projection shows on its international calendar of events—an unprecedented step for touristic events in Alexandria.
