The BA has begun documenting the history and life of the late Actor Youssef Dawoud in cooperation with his wife, Ms. Margret Malak, and his daughter, Dina. This comes in commemoration of the 4th anniversary of his death, and it is part of the BA Special Projects Department project to document the pioneers of the seventh art and to preserve Egypt’s modern and contemporary history.

The late actor’s family has kindly provided all of his personal documents, pictures, and belongings to be included in the project on the Memory of Modern Egypt website.

Youssef Dawoud was born in Alexandria on 8 January 1938, and he graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, in 1960. He forsook his field of study to pursue his passion in acting. His performances in cinema, TV, and theater were characterized by his distinct, personal style.

The late actor participated in nearly 186 works, most important of which are works featuring Actor Adel Emam. These include Karakoon Fil Sharea (Karakoon in the Street), Omaret Yaqubian (Yacoubian Building), and many others. He also performed with Emam in several plays, most notable of which are El-Wad Sayed El-Shaghal (Sayed The Servant) and El-Zaeem (The Leader).

Youssef Dawoud passed away on 24 June 2012 at the age of 74. The BA Sinnari House is set to showcase an exhibition of the late actor’s belongings, and it will also host an event and celebration in his commemoration.
