The BA will host two episodes of the “Point of Discussion” program, which airs on BBC Arabia TV and Radio, on 19 and 20 May 2016. A select group of specialists will participate in both episodes, and they will be joined by a group of young people, who are knowledgeable and interested in the episodes’ topics, as their guests.
The title of the first episode is “Who writes history in the Arab World?”. Dr. Mohamed Farouk, the director of the BA National Center for the Documentation of Cultural & Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), and eminent professors, specialized in different fields and disciplines of history, from Lebanon and Jordon will be moderating the episode and its discussions.
This episode will raise a number of questions, including: why Arabic archives are not made available to historians, how this affects the process of writing history, and the effects of the changing political systems on writing history.
The second episode will address the issue of why Arab universities are not listed among the best universities in the world. It will tackle a range of topics, including why the contributions of Arab universities in publishing scientific researches in prestigious periodicals is still limited, and whether or not there is enough funding for scientific research in Arab universities.
