Strong BA Participation in the Cairo International Book Fair

Posted on

This year, the BA is taking part in the Cairo International Book Fair with numerous publications released in 2015 and 2016, most important of which is the Yacht Mahroussa book, which was published in Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

The Yacht Mahroussa sheds light on the history of the royal yacht; the oldest floating palace in the world that still sets sail to this day. It is also the same yacht that was boarded by Khedive Ismail, along with many royals from around the world, during the celebrations of the Suez Canal inauguration on 17 November 1869.

The BA will also contribute in the Book Fair with a book titled Arab Antiquities: Selections from Historian Gawad Ali’s Research, which contains significant research that is considered a valuable resource for all those who are interested in the origins of Arab heritage, and especially researchers in the field of Pre-Islamic Arab history. Also on display will be the Morisco Manuscript Heritage book which comprises translated research from Spanish into Arabic. The research sheds light on an important era in Arab and Islamic history, known as the Morisco period. This era in history was named after the Moriscos, the Andalusians who lived in the Iberian peninsula from 1492 until 1609.

Among the BA publications on display will also be the Marased and Awrak publication series. Marased is a specialized series tackling sociology of religion, while Awrak specializes in futuristic studies. Al-Azhar catalogue, which traces Al-Azhar Mosque’s history, architecture and life within it since its establishment and until modern day, will also be included in the Fair, alongside The Photographic Memory of Alexandria by researcher Hossam Abd el-Baset, which portrays the way of life in the city of Alexandria and traces its architectural development.
