The BA Arts Center is organizing the 2nd round of the Alexandria International Festival for Contemporary Theater, which will be held from 5 to 10 April 2016.
The Arts Center announced a call for participation in the 2nd round in July 2015, and 93 performances from 40 countries were submitted for participation. The first round of the festival, on the other hand, received 61 performances.
Fifteen performances have been selected for this round as opposed to only 10 performances in the previous round. The selected performances are from Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, Tunisia, Germany, Sweden, Cameroon, Italy, Columbia, Spain, India, Russia, and Egypt. There will be 120 artists participating in this round. During the festival, up to three performances will be presented every day in addition to daily workshops.
The festival is being held as part of the efforts made by the BA Arts Center to support and encourage contemporary theater as an important means of artistic expression that reflects social and political realities. Contemporary theater is also considered to be one of the most important art forms that is compatible with a rapidly changing world and technological developments.
The performances included in the 2nd round of the festival will be presented on BA stages and at the Institut Français d'Egypte, with the participation of many cultural and artistic institutions in Alexandria.
