The BA organized the inauguration ceremony of the “Democracy for the 21st Century” Conference, which was held from 9 to 11 December 2015 with the participation of numerous experts, academics, politicians, and former presidents in the conference.

The conference stressed on the issues facing some democratic nations, such as the marginalization of its citizens, the lack of participation in public life, the relationship between economy and governance, climate change and natural resource management, and counter terrorism strategies adopted by some countries that do not adhere to the basic principles of democracy. Furthermore, the conference stated that a huge gap exists between the public perception of democratic values and the reality and actual practices of democracy.

Through the expertise of the participants and the experiences of various countries, the conference attempted to determine the viability of established systems and figure out future alternatives. The events that occurred in the region in 2011 are considered a by-product of the overall global development and the demands of the Arab world, and the conscientious Arab youths were the ones who led these calls for change.

Finally, the conference emphasized the importance of formulating a new social contract, with the contribution and collaboration of youths, in various Arab countries in order to reach a state of stability.
