The BA is hosting the 2015 Model of European Union inauguration ceremony on Sunday, 23 August 2015 at 6:00 pm. The event is organized by the Step Up Youth Initiative, in cooperation with the BA Depository Library and the European Union. This is the sixth consecutive edition of the MEU to be held at the BA.
The MEU, which begins in August and ends in September, will allow participants to simulate the European Union councils after they are provided with the necessary information to carry out the simulation correctly. The Model is divided into several stages, the first of which is the preparatory stage where the structure of the European Union, its relations to the Southern Mediterranean region, the challenges it faces, and the most important topics that will be discussed within the model are explained.
In the second stage, the participants will be divided into councils, including the European Council, the European Parliament, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the European Investment Bank, and the European Court of Justice. During this stage, participants will hold in-depth discussions of the main topics and challenges that face the EU. The Model will conclude with a closing ceremony where suggested solutions to these challenges will be presented, discussed, and voted on.
This year, the Model will be held under the theme “Road to Freedom” where participants will discuss and debate several regional and international political and economic topics. The aim is to teach them about crisis management and international affairs and to help them become decision makers instead of bystanders.
