Serageldin Receives Gold Medal from Republic of Azerbaijan at 3rd Global Baku Forum

Akif Alizade, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, awarded Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA, and Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, former President of the Republic of Latvia, the Nizami Ganjavi Gold Medal during the 3rd Global Baku Forum, which was titled “Building Trust in the Emerging World Order”. The forum was organized by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, and the Club of Madrid.
The forum discussed the many challenges that currently face the emerging world order, including religious and racial conflicts, terrorist attacks, democracy development, the role of women in the peace process, and other topics.
Among the attendees were several former and current presidents, ministers, international political leaders, scientists, and experts. During the forum’s opening ceremony, Dr. Serageldin, who is also Co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, spoke about the difficult times we now face as the old world order crumbles before our eyes. He said that the forum had already discussed the topic of extremism and added that the BA has assumed a leading role in the fight against extremist ideas. He also said that the new world order has to take into consideration the huge differences between cultures, and that a new system has to be constructed that can adjust to these diverse world cultures
