Book Club Launch at BA

The BA has launched a book club after inaugurating several programs that encourage people of all ages to read. The programs also encourage the celebration of Free Reading Day, which takes place every October, and participation in their summer reading activities. The launching of this new book club proves that the BA is keen on getting people to read and on opening new venues for discussing different topics.
To guarantee reader interaction, book club members get to vote on a new book to read every month from the BA collection. Voting is done via the General Information Desk or the BA Facebook page (facebook.com/BA library services). The winning book is announced at the beginning of each month, so that participants have enough time to read it before the book club meeting on the last Thursday of the month. The book club kicked-off their first meeting, in November, with a discussion of Radwa Ashour’s Thulathiyyat Gharnata (The Granada Trilogy). The trilogy had garnered the most votes, beating Dostoevsky’s The Idiot and Tawfiq el-Hakim’s Awdet al-Rouh (The Return of the Soul).
The BA book club is getting ready for its second meeting on Thursday, 25 December 2014. This time they will be discussing Naguib Mahfouz’s Awlad Haretna (Children of Gebelawi). The novel was chosen by BA readers over Mohamed Mansi Qandil’s Moon over Samarqand and Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina.
