The BA Center for Islamic Civilization Studies and the Young People's Library are organizing a symposium and workshops entitled «Embroideries and Arts of Kiswat (Covering) Al-Kaaba», presented by a group of experts in Islamic civilization and arts.
The events will take place on Tuesday, 25 June 2024, in the BACC Small Theater, and on Wednesday, 26 June 2024 at the BA Young People's Library from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The symposium will feature lectures on both theory and practice about the production of Kiswat Al-Kaaba across the decades, as well as its artistic ornamentation and needlework, since Egypt was the only country to have had the honor of sending Kiswat Al-Kaaba to the Two Holy Mosques for six centuries. A presentation of the history of the Dar (House) of Al-Kiswa in Cairo will also be included.
Additionally, a series of workshops will be held, including a practical training to explain the decorative aspects of Kiswat Al-Kaaba, as well as its style and reflections in folk art, followed by a practical training on the Kiswa that is preserved at the BA.
