The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the German University in Cairo, inaugurates “100/100” exhibition on Tuesday, 10 May 2022, at 1:00 pm, in the BACC East Exhibition Hall.
The exhibition features the 100 best Arabic posters presented as part of a biennial non-profit official poster competition, created as a preparatory Master’s project in 2015 under the title “100/100”, at the hands of a group of academics affiliated to the Graphic Design Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts, the German University of Cairo.
The aim of the competition is to document the visual culture of the contemporary Arab world through highlighting Arabic posters and selecting their best. The competition seeks to render the “100/100” exhibition a platform that inspires, connects, and trains emerging talents and professional academics around the world, by holding workshops and panel discussions, in addition to publishing articles in the field of graphic design.
The competition – which is free of charge – welcomes designers who work in the Arab region, use the Arabic language in their work, or conduct projects with clients and universities in the Arab region. The jury works voluntarily and independently, and consists of professional designers and academics from all over the Arab world. The winning posters are displayed in the “100/100” exhibition that is set to travel across different countries in the Arab region and around the world.
The competition team aspires to promote the status of the poster as an important means of communication in public spaces. It also strives to generate discussions on the role of the poster, as well as its composition, content, and implementation techniques.
The exhibition runs until Monday, 23 May 2022, daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Fridays are off.
