The BA Women Studies and Social Transformation Program (WSST) organizes a seminar entitled “The Role of the Egyptian Judiciary in Addressing Crimes of Violence against Women” on Thursday, 9 December 2021, at 7:00 pm, in the BACC Delegates Hall. The seminar is delivered by Dr. Yehia Ahmed El-Banna, President of Giza Criminal Court, and is held as part of the international campaign to fight violence against women.

The topic of this seminar is of great importance, particularly in the presence of an Egyptian political will that supports Egyptian women and contributes to the creation of new prospects for female participation across all sectors. This becomes evident as women have held several ministerial portfolios and assumed prominent positions in Parliament – opportunities that were not accessible before. Efforts to support women’s empowerment continue to expand through adequate legislation and strategy making, which have contributed significantly to the achievement of social justice and full equality for women.

The Women Studies and Social Transformation Program will release a booklet titled The Role of the Egyptian Judiciary in Addressing Crimes of Violence against Women, which highlights the distinguished role of the Egyptian judiciary in addressing the different forms of violence against women.

A host of law experts and those interested in women’s issues, together with a number of young men and women, are expected to take part in the event.
