The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized a session to discuss the stages of translating and printing the Dewey Decimal Classification (23rd edition and its updates). The session was conducted by Dr. Shadia El-Soussi, Project Consultant and Emeritus Professor at the Linguistic Studies and Translation Institute, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.

The Dewey Decimal Classification is one of the most widely used systems of knowledge organization in the Arab region and worldwide, introduced by Melvil Dewey in 1873. It was first published in 1876, and has now reached its 23rd edition. It was translated into more than 30 languages, and used in over 200,000 libraries in more than 135 countries (including 60 countries that use it to organize their national bibliographies).
