BA Receives over 400 Submissions in the International Competition for Designing “Science City”

The BA has received submission from 446 contestants in the international competition for architects and planners to design the “Science City” in the 6th of October City. The competition was launched under the auspices of the International Union of Architects (UIA). The “Science City” project aims to connect between previous scientific achievement and current advancement, promote scientific culture and knowledge to the public, create an atmosphere that leads to further scientific advancement, and shed light on the connection between science, technology, and industry.
Submitted designs were received from 45 countries around the world, including Egypt, KSA, Jordan, Tunis, UAE, Lebanon, Palestine, Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, China, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Cyprus, Romania, USA, Canada, Bolivia, Brazil, and Ecuador.
Winning designs are going to be announced on Monday, 29 August 2016 as part of a grand celebration at the BA Great Hall.
The contestants visited the location of Science City on Sunday, 22 May 2016. The BA then started receiving their designs to be included in the competition exhibition, which was specifically created for the international jury chaired by the BA Director Dr. Ismail Serageldin. The jury, which includes a number of renowned international architects, is set to start its meetings for assessing the competition entries from 23 to 28 August 2016.
Science City aims to establish a scientific center that consists of interactive scientific exhibitions, a museum for collections, research facilities, workshops, and a conference center. It aspires to stimulate people’s curiosity and sense of exploration and promote scientific and technological education through unconventional exhibitions and educational activities.
