Several Cultural Activities in the Alexandria International Book Fair

Alexandria—The BA is organizing the Seventh Alexandria International Book Fair 2009, held from 19 February to 4 March 2009. As a guest of honor together with the “Memory of Modern Egypt” Project, the National Translation Center will organize a number of cultural activities in this edition of the Fair.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, will give the opening speech of the Fair on Saturday, 21 February 2009, and later Dr. Gaber Asfour will speak in a seminar entitled “A Testimony on the Contemporary Egyptian Cultural Situation”.

On Wednesday, 25 February 2009, a reading of the book Ismail’s Cairo will take place, moderated by Dr. Khaled Azab , and hosting Mr. Ahmed Mahmoud, Dr. Sohair Hawas and Dr. Mohamed Awad. A reading of another book, Folklore and Archiving, will also take place on Saturday, 28 February 2009, moderated by Dr. Ahmed Abu Zeid, and hosting Dr. Abdel Hamid Hawas and Dr. Emad Abu Ghazy.

Sunday, 1 March 2009 will feature a reading of Theories of Translation, moderated by Dr. Gaber Asfour and hosting Mr. Talaat El-Shayeb, Dr. Azza El-Kholy, Dr. Mohamed El-Kordy and Dr. Aly El-Monofy as speakers.
