The BA Issues its First Collection of Rare Acquisitions

The BA has recently issued the first collection of rare acquisitions in a book entitled “Selections of Rare Acquisitions of the BA”. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the BA, wrote the foreword of the book while Dr. Youssef Zeidan, Director of the BA Manuscripts and Rare Books Department prepared and edited the book.

The book introduces a simple explanation for a large number of rare books such as “Al Jami"" Al Sahih - The Comprehensive Corpus of Accurate Hadith”, the manuscript of “Al-Mudawwana Fi Fiqh Al Malikiyya - Maliki Jurisprudence Corpus”, the manuscript of “Alusul Fi Sharh Al Fusul - Fundamentals of the Explanation of Aphorisms”, the manuscript of “Al Mughni Fi Al Adwiya Al Mufrada - The Sufficient Book on Simple Drugs”, the manuscript of “Sunan Ibn Majah - Ibn Majah""s Sunna” the manuscript of “Khulasat Al Hisab - A compendium of Arithmetic”.

The book also illustrates a number of rare books such as, “Mushaf Ibn Al Bawwab- The Holy Quran Inscribed by Ibn Al Bawab”, Cosmographiae, Description de L""Egypte and the Commemorative Volume of the Inauguration of Suez Canal.

Finally, the book introduces some of the rare possessions of the BA such as, a paper knife of the well-known British novelist Lawrence Durrell, the author of the Alexandria Quartet, four Italian marble statues each one representing one of the Four Seasons sculptured in the Greek style, these statues were part of the possessions of John Anthoniades""s famous Palace and Gardens.
