BA Hosts the Final Day of the Nurturing Extremism Conference

The BA hosted the closing sessions of the Nurturing Extremism: A Reading of the Measures of Intellectual Confrontation on Tuesday, 5 January 2016. The conference was attended by 250 intellectuals and experts in topics concerning extremism, terrorism, sociology, political science, and Islamic sciences to discuss, over the course of three days, the measures of intellectual confrontation of extremism and terrorism.
The closing session included signing agreements between the BA and a number of Arab institutions in an effort to promote Arab culture and disseminate enlightened thought. A number of ideas, which were tackled throughout the conference, were presented, such as using education to fight extremism and to achieve development and progress; promoting contemporary understanding of religion; modernizing society as a whole politically, economically, socially, and culturally to fight extremism through eliminating marginalization and encouraging good governance, citizenship, and social justice; and paying close attention to social research dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of extremism that is threatening our society.
The conference also stressed that the BA will expand its Arab and international partnerships, and it will increase communication with research centers around the Arab world to analyze the phenomenon of extremism and terrorism, figure out the cause behind its growth in the Arab world, and find ways to fight it. In fact, the BA has already signed agreements with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Council of Europe to organize activities and events in Europe that revolve around Muslims in Europe.
Locally, the BA will be involved in many initiatives, such as Islamic culture courses for youths in order to spread enlightened moderate ideologies. Additionally, courses will be offered to young researchers and Islamic preachers on contemporary culture and world peace in order to modernize Islamic discourse and help it keep up with new challenges. The BA is moving forward with the process of establishing Embassies of Knowledge in Egyptian universities, and it will also publish popular editions of its two publication series: Marased and Awrak.
